Every personal injury attorney knows how to handle things like medical records, bills, and other formalities. The bodily injury compensation expert will be able to guide you through the entire legal process of getting justice for your injuries. This includes fighting personal injury claims with insurance providers. Damages in personal injury cases are difficult to fight.
In many instances, injury victims fail to receive compensation for accident injuries because the insurance adjuster finds a loophole in the law and tries to disprove the case. On top of that, legal fees for this type of law can sometimes outweigh its rewards. That is why it is crucial for accident and injury victims who want to file a claim to research the options deeply.
It would be best to look for an expert injury attorney who will ensure that the claim is filed correctly and within all required time limits. Insurance companies are notorious for trying to keep the money owed to victims. Many times, insurance companies hire accident investigators who try to explain what happened that is not accurate.
Sometimes insurance companies hire accident lawyers known for trying to pay victims as little money as possible. For this reason, if you do not have an injury attorney, you will end up getting less compensation.
Typically, personal injury lawyers have to deal with cases involving car accidents, medical malpractice, slip and falls, dog bites, assault and battery, or any of the other common personal injury claims. However, every now and then personal injury attorneys come across some claims that are — shall we say — less than typical, some of which are almost unbelievable.
Here are a few such personal injury claims that are almost too weird to believe.
Don’t Smoke on the Toilet.
In 2011, one coal company worker got a terrible surprise when he decided to take a quick smoke break in the work site’s bathroom. A methane pipe beneath the toilet sprang a leak, and so naturally the whole cubicle exploded when the worker lit his cigarette. The worker survived and got a $10 million workers compensation settlement as a result of her personal injury claim.
Don’t Watch Fear Factor If You Can’t Handle It.
Back in 2005, a man named Austin Aitkin filed a personal injury claim against TV network NBC that said the show Fear Factor caused him to get a concussion. During one episode, contestants had to eat rats. Watching this particular program caused Aitkin to feel nauseous and dizzy. In an attempt to get away from the TV, he ran into a door frame and suffered a concussion. It should also be noted that after reviewing his personal injury claim, the courts asked him why he didn’t just look away or turn the TV off.
Don’t Leave a Puddle of Gravy on the Floor.
One woman who was walking through a restaurant, causally minding her own business, didn’t notice the big puddle of gravy, and wound up slipping in it. She injured her back as soon as she hit the ground, and naturally filed a personal injury claim as a result.
